Passenger Rights in Case of Flight Cancellation: What You Need to Know

1. Right to Information
Upon flight cancellation, airlines are obligated to inform passengers promptly. This includes providing information about the cancellation reason and their rights under relevant regulations.

What You Should Expect: Airlines must notify you directly or through announcements at the airport. They should also inform you about your options for rebooking or receiving a refund.

2. Right to Re-routing or Refund
When your flight is canceled, you have the right to choose between re-routing to your final destination at the earliest opportunity or receiving a refund of the ticket cost.

Re-routing: Airlines must offer you an alternative flight to your destination. This could be on their own services or through another carrier if necessary.

Refund: If you choose not to travel, you are entitled to a full refund of the ticket price for the canceled flight.

3. Right to Care
In addition to re-routing or refund options, passengers are entitled to care and assistance while waiting for an alternative flight.

Meals and Refreshments: Airlines must provide meals and refreshments in a reasonable relation to the waiting time.

Accommodation:
If an overnight stay is necessary, the airline must offer hotel accommodation, transportation to and from the airport, and the cost of communication (such as phone calls or emails).
